Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the fastest growing airport in the world based on statistics compiled by OAG, a global leader in airline industry analysis.
OAG’s Frequency and Capacity Trend Statistics report for April 2013 shows a year-over-year increase of 757,000 seats available from Dubai International Airport in April 2013 compared to April 2012. Figures also show that the Middle Eastern hub has increased capacity by an average of 12 percent per year since 2004.
“Dubai International Airport’s consistent increase in capacity over the last decade has been largely driven by the growth of Dubai-based carrier Emirates,” said John Grant, executive vice president, OAG. “Over the last 12 months alone, the airline has added nine new destinations, which equates to nearly 22,000 additional seats every day.”
The FACT report showed Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) as the second-fastest growing airport, adding 552,000 seats over the last 12 months. Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST) placed third with an increase of 529,000 seats between April 2012 and April 2013.
