For the past couple of years, face masks became part of our daily routine. We’ve needed them in Ubers, on airplanes, in the airport, in stores and pretty much everywhere else that’s not outside or in our own spaces. This week, a federal judge ruled against the mask mandate for public transportation. Many airline passengers have already gone maskless during their flights this week and seemed happy to leave them behind.

Throughout the pandemic, American Airlines prioritized the health and safety of its team members and passengers by following the federal government’s mask mandates to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Now, in accordance with the Transportation Security Administration’s discontinuing the enforcement of the face mask mandate, face masks American Airlines will no longer require customers or team members to wear masks on its flights. While it’s not a requirement, American Airlines noted people are still welcome to wear masks on flights.

On Alaska Airlines, masks are now optional for all passengers and crew members traveling in the United States. Safety has always been Alaska Airlines’ highest priority, so as more pandemic protocols and policies change, the team will be prepared for whatever comes next.

“It has been a long 24 months with nearly constant change. I could not be prouder of our frontline employees who have handled every pivot focusing on safety and the care we’re known for,” said Max Tidwell, vice president, Safety and Security, Alaska Airlines. “We’re also thankful for our guests who remained considerate, patient and stood by us throughout every twist and turn.”

On the airport side, Orlando International Airport (MCO) announced it will no longer require guests to wear masks while roaming through the airport. With the new changes, The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority will continue to monitor the situation and be vigilant with efforts to promote safe, secure and sanitized environments for its guests.

While masks are no longer mandated, the CDC still recommends travelers wear masks in indoor public transportation settings as a preventative measure.
