Tennessee Williams. Vladimir Horowitz. Vaclav Havel. Besides being famous, what do these celebrities have in common? They all stayed at Hotel Elysée during their lifetimes. And now the hotel has named three of its suites in their honor.

According to Hotel Elysée General Manager John Avina, dedicating the suites to authors Tennessee Williams and Vaclav Havel pays homage to hotel’s heritage as a member of the Library Hotel Collection. Including legendary composer Vladimir Horowitz in the mix was a perfect fit because one of the suites features a piano he once owned.

The Tennessee Williams Suite (Suite 151) is named for the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who loved and worked at the hotel until his death in 1983. Room furnishings include an 0riginal Playbill from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, a photo from a scene in A Streetcar Named Desire and a photo of Williams with Bette Davis.

The Vladimir Horowitz Suite (Suite 124) is a tribute to the American classical pianist and composer considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. In addition to one of his pianos, the suite features  a photo of Horowitz accepting the President’s Special Merit Award at Radio City Music Hall.

The Vaclav Havel Suite (Suite 134) showcases mementos once owned by the Czech playwright, essayist, poet and politician including three of his books, Open Letters, To the Castle and The Garden Party.

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
