Hurawalhi Island Resort, a new luxury resort in the Maldives, welcomes its first guests this week, offering elegant accommodations, luxurious amenities and the world’s largest all-glass undersea restaurant.
The world-class resort offers 90 villas — 60 over-sea options and 30 on the white-sand beach complete with private infinity pools — along with a PADI dive centre and spa. 5.8 Undersea Restaurant, so-called for sitting 5.8 metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean, offers fine dining in an unparalleled atmosphere. For those who prefer to stay above sea level, the resort also offers several options, including the Aquarium Restaurant, Teppanyaki Grill, Canneli Restaurant, Coco Bar and private beachfront dining.
There is a professional photo concierge on hand to capture guest experiences, from deep sea fishing to island-hopping excursions, and in the evening guests can enjoy authentic Maldivian music and dancing.
The eco-friendly resort operates its own water bottling plant to eliminate plastic bottles and uses solar panels to power 30 per cent of the island’s energy needs. The resort is also collaborating with Manta Trust, a marine conservation group, to provide guided dives and snorkeling trips, where guests can experience green turtles and manta rays among other vibrant ocean life.
