The Maldives will welcome yet another luxury resort in October. Soneva Jani will include 24 water villas and one island villa on the island of Medhufaru, one of five uninhabited islands in the Noonu Atoll. Every water villa will feature its own private pool, some with slides leading right into the lagoon waters. Master bedrooms will have retractable roofs for late-night stargazing. The property will include 18 one-bedroom water villas, four two-bedroom water villas, two three-bedroom water villas and one four-bedroom island villa. The villas are built with the highest sustainability standards in mind. Pools are filled with UV-filtered seawater and solar PV will act as a significant source of power. Waste water will be treated on site, and all other wastes recycled. “We live in an ever-more crowded and developed world,” said Sonu Shivdasani, founder and CEO, Soneva. “Soneva Jani is one of the lowest density resorts in the world. Just 25 villas are built in an area that stretches nearly five kilometers. It is not an island resort. It is a lagoon with five private islands where only one of these will have development.” Five dining options will offer international flavours, as well as Soneva’s trademark and complimentary cheese, chocolate, ice cream and charcuterie rooms. Organic resort gardens will provide as much produce for the five restaurants as possible.
