The Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel, opening this spring, is branding itself as the first living hotel, created with ambient intelligence technology for an interactive and multisensory experience designed by Réalisations Inc.

A long corridor outfitted with digital displays that change based on human movement, in order to create a one-of-a-kind graphic, will greet guests. This technology is made possible with a variety of reflective wallpaper, 3D cameras, motion detectors and projectors.

Moving forward, guests who find themselves at the elevator bank will similarly see digital displays featuring local artists, neighborhoods and scenes of the Garment District. The display will be timed to coincide with the opening and closing of the elevators, and will create a new image each time.

Another “living” aspect is the virtual concierge, which features a large screen that snaps into action only when guests step on certain words projected onto the floor, providing them with corresponding information on restaurants, events, shows and more.

Guests wanting to check out this technologically advanced property before booking a stay can find a taste of what’s to be expected by viewing the four-story LED clock located at the top of the building. The clock will show a different image each second, or 86,400 images per day.
