News

American Airlines announced new summer service starting May 4, 2018. The expanded routes include flights from Philadelphia (PHL) to Budapest (BUD) and Prague (PRG) and flights from Chicago (ORD) to Venice (VCE). American currently offers service to Venice from Philadelphia, but Budapest and Prague are entirely new destinations for the airline.

“Summer travel to Europe is very popular. These flights will conveniently connect customers from two very important hubs — Chicago and Philadelphia — to exciting markets across the Atlantic,” said Vasu Raja, vice president, network and schedule planning, American Airlines.

All three flights are available for booking as of this month. Service runs May 4–Oct. 27. A Boeing 767-300 serves both Philadelphia flights, while a Boeing 787-8 serves the Chicago route.

The released schedule is subject to government approval, but includes flights departing Philadelphia for Budapest at 6:25 p.m. daily, and arriving at Budapest at 9:35 a.m. the next day. Return flights depart Budapest at 11:35 a.m., arriving in Philadelphia at 4 p.m. Prague flights follow a similar schedule, departing Philadelphia at 6:30 p.m., arriving in Prague at 9:05 a.m. the next day, with return flights departing at 11:30 a.m. and arriving at 3:10 p.m. Flights between Chicago and Venice depart O’Hare at 7 p.m., arriving in Venice at 11 a.m.; return flights depart at 2:50 p.m., arriving back in Chicago at 6:15 p.m.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
