Tour company Natural Habitat Adventures will launch a new trip to the Ethiopian Highlands beginning October 2016. The trip visits the stunning yet under-the-radar region, with dramatic landscapes and rare wildlife, on a 12-day nature-based trip called Wild Ethiopia: The Roof of Africa.

Departures are Oct. 25 and Nov. 6, 2016, and Oct. 24 and Nov. 5, 2017. The per-person double rate is from $7,795, which includes accommodations, all meals from dinner on day one to dinner on the final day, non-alcoholic beverages with meals and in vehicles, the services of Nat Hab Expedition Leader, local guides and lodge staff, some gratuities, airport transfers on the first and last day, permits and entrance fees and all taxes. Internal air at approximately $500 is not included.

The trip will visit the country’s alpine moors and grasslands, deep gorges and volcanic mountains on a mix of vehicle-based and walking tours. Wildlife, ancient monuments, early churches and ruins are also highlighted. Overnight stays are in boutique lodges like the thatch-roofed Simien Lodge, a collection of brick and wattle dwellings in Simien Mountains National Park.

The tour begins and ends in Addis Ababa.
