Hotel giant Meliá Hotels International announced tremendous growth in the Asia Pacific region, with a total of 45 hotel properties in the region, currently and in the pipeline.
The company signed more than 30 hotels in the last five years alone — multiplying its portfolio in the region by five.
Further expanding this impressive portfolio, Meliá plans to open new properties in destinations including Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Mongolia and Myanmar.
“The size of this market, the strong organic growth we are seeing in China and Southeast Asia, and the progressive growth in revenues in the region, lead us to predict that in the medium term the region will make a contribution as important to company results as Cuba represented after its addition 30 years ago,” said Gabriel Escarrer, executive vice president and CEO, Meliá.
Among the list of additions are Meliá Xueye Lake in China; Meliá Chiang Mai and INNSIDE Bangkok Sukhumvit in Thailand; and Meliá Va Bi Mountain Retreat and Meliá Bukit Tinggi in Vietnam.
The new Meliá Xueye Lake in China has a prime location on the largest water reserve in the region — home to the cities of Ji’nan, Zibo, Tai’an and Laiwu. Lake Xueye has become the most popular leisure destination for the surrounding cities due to its natural beauty and ease of access.
Meliá Chiang Mai will be the company’s first hotel in Chiang Mai — the second most popular tourist city in Thailand. Declared a “creative city” by UNESCO, Chiang Mai is the largest city in Thailand. The hotel will be completed in 2019.
Thailand will also receive Meliá’s elegant and functional INNSIDE brand, priding itself on anticipating the needs and desires of the modern traveller. INNSIDE Bangkok Sukhumvit will be Meliá’s second hotel in the capital of Thailand, located just 30 minutes from Bangkok’s main airport. This hotel will open in 2021 with 176 rooms, all-day dining, a pool on the upper terrace and a fitness centre.
In Vietnam’s tropical forests of Ba Vi National Park, Meliá Ba Vi Mountain Retreat aims to become a flagship of the wellness hospitality segment; and in Malaysia, Meliá Bukit Tinggi will become the company’s fifth hotel, surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes and some of the country’s most famous historic landmarks.
Founded in 1956 in Palma de Mallorca, Meliá Hotels International is one of the largest hotel companies in the world, with more than 370 hotels in more than 40 countries on four continents under its brands Gran Meliá, Meliá Hotels and Resorts, Paradisus Resorts, ME by Meliá, INNSIDE by Meliá, Tryp by Wyndham and Sol Hotels.
