Through Sept. 17, three separate museums in Morges, Switzerland, on Lake Geneva’s celebrated shore, are celebrating designer Hubert de Givenchy and his legendary design muse, actress Audrey Hepburn. The retrospective, entitled “Audrey Hepburn and Hubert de Givenchy: An Elegant Friendship,” explores the 40-year-long friendship between couturier and film star, which began almost as an accident. Givenchy thought he’d been invited to meet actress Katherine Hepburn, of whom he was allegedly an enormous fan, and discovered Audrey waiting for him instead.

It all worked out well in the long run, and on more than one occasion during her illustrious career, Hepburn credited Givenchy for creating her signature look and style. Fans of fashion can enjoy the long collaboration between designer and actress from three different perspectives at each of the participating museums. At the Fondation Bolle, the exhibition includes a documentary film and a selection of sketches, haute couture and photography. A display of garments, accessories and designs is on view at Morges Castle, while the Musée Alexis-Forel turns the spotlight on Hepburn through original sketches, magazine covers, photographs and a selection of dresses from Hepburn’s personal and professional wardrobes.
