It is no secret airplanes contribute the highest amount of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and that air travel is a detriment to the state of the environment. For years aviation experts have been seeking ways to decrease the amount of pollution for which airplanes are responsible, and from those years of research and experimentation, NASA may have a solution. NASA revealed a new X-57 plane named Maxwell, a one-seater plane powered by 14 electrically run motors. As a part of NASA´s initiative called New Aviation Horizons that focuses on developing greener forms of air travel, Maxwell is not only better for the environment with absolutely no CO2 emissions, but it is also one of the quietest planes to ever take to the skies. Although the plane currently is too small for passengers, NASA hopes to see the X-57 on runways within the next four years, with larger planes to follow that can carry cargo and more passengers. NASA´s past X-series experiential planes have included the X-1, a 1947 model that traveled faster than the speed of sound.
