Marriott’s Edition brand is raising industry standards for luxury travel accommodations, and the brand has officially made its entrance in China with the opening of Sanya Edition.

Located on the shores of Hainan Island, the massive property overlooks the South China Sea, which provides the saltwater for the “private ocean” pool, the hotel’s focal point amenity.

The hotel features 512 residential-style rooms, 46 suites and 17 pool villas. Amenities include a 12-room spa, mahjong rooms and premier dining options including a seafront Chinese seafood restaurant and a beachfront Indonesian restaurant and rooftop bar. For kids, the hotel offers a rock-climbing wall, watersides, mini golf and a gaming arcade.

Sanya Edition is only the fourth hotel in the new collection, following existing properties in London, Miami Beach and New York. The new brand has several projects on the horizon, with openings in Bangkok, Abu Dhabi, Shanghai and Barcelona slated for 2017.

The luxury Edition brand is not the only Marriott collection to expand within the burgeoning Asian market. Several hotels in the company’s Autograph Collection are slated to open in 2017, including The Shanhaitian Resort Sanya in China; The Majestic Hotel and Hotel Stripes in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia; and RYSE hotel in Seoul, South Korea. Marriott also recently launched its first midscale Fairfield hotel, Marriott Surabaya, in Indonesia.
