The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok celebrates its 140^th birthday this year. The hotel began as The Oriental and was the only luxury hotel in the region at that time. Its first guests of note were Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and Joseph Conrad.

To celebrate its many years of luxury service, it is celebrating with a variety of bespoke events, as well as a special 140^th anniversary offer. The offer includes personal butler service, daily breakfast for two, afternoon tea for two and a take-home gift of the property’s commemorative homemade jam.

Bespoke events include dining experiences by Michelin-starred chefs Alain Solivérès, Sébastian Bras, José Avillez and Diego Oka at Le Normandie and Lord Jim’s. The Embassy of the Russian Federation will present a caviar and vodka dinner in the Author’s Lounge, as well as select vodka offerings in the Bamboo Bar in June. Later this year, the Author’s Lounge will display an exclusive exhibition of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand’s dresses. The Embassy of Italy will host an opera presentation May 30. To recognize the anniversary, the hotel will offer alms to 99 monks April 28. Tribute will also be paid to the longest hotel employee on that day — Ms. Ankana Kalantananda was first employed in 1947.
