Lyft launched a new program that allows riders to combine rides with other riders and thus receive a discount on their ride.

As of February, Lyft’s Shared Saver program, similar to Uber’s Pool, lets riders browse the app and find the nearest vehicle that can take riders either to or near their desired destination.

The app provides walking directions and lists the time it will take to walk to the driver’s location where a vehicle may already be toting passengers to other locations. The ride may not take you exactly to your desired destination, but may drop you off a few blocks away. The app also will list the price for either Shared or Shared Saver fares, the number of available spaces in the vehicle and the approximate arrival time to your destination.

Lyft also offers a Shuttle service in Chicago and San Francisco, more of a commuter-based program providing rides into and out of major business areas.
