There’s a new way to enjoy luxury travel in the Arctic this winter, thanks to Off the Map Travel’s upcoming floating Arctic Bath Hotel and Spa. The hotel freezes into the ice of the Lule River in the winter and floats on the river’s waters in the summer. There are six floating cabins and six land-based cabins at the ultra-boutique property.

The property’s design was inspired by the timber industry and bygone days when workers would float felled timber down the river. Cabins are built with local materials, including pine walls and dark oak floors for a Scandinavian feel. The construction caused minimal impact to the local wilderness and a green electricity system makes use of the river.

Land-based cabins are outfitted with floor-to-ceiling glass walls for views of the Lule River, living space over two floors and sleeping arrangements for up to five travelers. In-room amenities include WiFi, under-floor heating, a minibar filled with smoothies, handmade toiletries and tablets for researching local information and details on menus, treatments and activities. The tablet also gives guests direct communication with the on-site spa and reception desk.
