Constructed around 1780 and listed as a historic building within the British Isles, The Dovecote originally housed doves for the Buckland Estate, located in leafy Oxfordshire. Unique and multi-sided, it was reclaimed in 1995, along with a collection of other derelict farm structures. Over the course of an extensive five-year renovation, the building was converted into a romantic hideaway a scant hour-and-a-half’s drive from London. Positioned at the end of a half-mile bridleway lined with Scots pines, The Dovecote is also close to Carswell Golf and Country Club.

The rich history of the Buckland Estate includes having once been home to the Chaucers, Earls of Suffolk and Throckmortons. Within The Dovecote, guests enjoy a lovely kitchen, heated floors, a large lounge and dining area, a private sauna and a double-headed shower. The stunning glassed-balcony bedroom provides views of the gardens and the structure’s 1,200 original brick nesting boxes — along with the rotating timber ladder that once provided access to the resident doves. A welcome basket containing eggs, bread, milk, butter, jam and marmalade — tailored to your personal requests — is also provided. For dinner, it’s a short walk to the village of Buckland and the Lamb Inn.
