The millions of Americans traveling this week for the Thanksgiving holiday should expect airport delays due to tightened security prompted by terrorist attacks in Paris, according to a report from Reuters.
“The changes are good that you’re going to see longer waits because of security,” Christopher Elliot, a travel writer and consumer advocate, told Reuters. He advised travelers to add 30 minutes to the time airports recommend for arrival in order to make flights.
The report noted increased security measures could bring longer lines for passengers on Thanksgiving Day, as agents spend more time checking travelers and their baggage.
Thanksgiving is the top holiday for travel in the United States, with an estimated 46.9 million Americans traveling over the holiday, according to AAA’s Thanksgiving Travel Forecast. Approximately 3.6 million will travel by plane this year.
The Department of Homeland Security announced Friday no credible threat, like the recent attacks in Paris, to the United States exist.
