Popular AccorHotels brand MGallery debuted in Kyoto last week with the opening of MGallery Kyoto Yura Hotel.

Like other MGallery properties, the new hotel aims to capture the spirit of the local neighborhood. The 144-room property features classical design, local fabric and more touches of local authenticity.

The property is situated within walking distance of many of Kyoto’s most scenic and recognizable spots.

“The opening of Kyoto Yura Hotel MGallery strengthens our luxury footprint in Japan following the successful launch of Pullman Tokyo Tamachi last year. Home to 17 stunning UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Kyoto is considered the heart and soul of traditional Japan,” said Patrick Basset, CEO, Upper Southeast and Northeast Asia and the Maldives, Accor.

This first MGallery hotel in Japan is the latest of 101 others in the brand that exist globally. There are 48 MGallery hotels currently in development.

The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.

New York City’s Penn Station to Undergo Massive Redevelopment

There are few commuters, residents and tourists who have visited New York City and never included Pennsylvania Station in their travel plans. The city’s Penn Station opened in 1910 as a Beaux-Arts masterpiece designed by McKim, Mead & White, modeled after the Roman Baths of Caracalla from the third century A.D. Of course, there was no resemblance.

Why Japan Is Best Explored by Sea with Princess

Japan is a destination that rewards repeat visits because no two regions — or seasons —  feel quite the same. One moment, you’re wandering through centuries-old geisha districts in Kanazawa. The next, you’re watching neon reflections dance across Tokyo streets long after midnight.
