The race to Cuba is on, and so far six national airlines earned approval to fly to the island nation that recently re-opened its borders to American travelers. JetBlue is the only carrier, however, offering one-way journeys from the United States for only $99. JetBlue will fly between Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and three Cuban cities: Santa Clara (SNU), Holguín (HOG) and Camagüey. (CMW) Beginning in September, thrice-weekly flights will be available, followed by daily flights beginning in October and November. As part of a promotion to advertise these new routes, the one-way fares are only $99 but will most likely increase after the initial influx of interest in visiting Cuba. Fares on other national airlines such as American Airlines and Southwest can cost more than $200. Travelers itching to visit Cuba will still need to fit into one of the 12 approved categories that allow Americans to visit the Caribbean island. As such, JetBlue´s website will require travelers to select from one of the 12 categories and begin the visa process at the time of ticket purchase. Health insurance is also included in the fee that travelers must pay, as it is a requirement for all visitors to Cuba.
