Japan Airlines’ new JAL COVID-19 Cover, part of its JAL FlySafe program, will provide support for passengers with essential travel needs during the global pandemic. The service, provided by Allianz Travel, is a first of its kind for a Japanese carrier and includes coverage up to €150,000 in total medical costs, from the initial COVID-19 testing fee to subsequent medical treatment for those that test positive.

Additional coverage accounts for isolation costs and repatriation. A global, 24-hour support line assists customers with symptoms in both English and Japanese. The services will be offered from Dec. 23 onward. Passengers traveling on international flights operated and marketed by JAL are eligible, for travel Dec. 23–June 30, 2021. The coverage is valid 31 days from the first leg of a JAL international flight or expires upon a traveler’s return to their country of residence.

“As international flights gradually return to service, the JAL Group has implemented key measures against COVID-19 to provide customers a safe and secure travel experience,” said Hideo Ninomiya, managing executive officer of passenger sales, Japan Airlines. “While it may take time to welcome back customers on a global scale, we hope this coverage with Allianz Travel will provide reassurance to those that need to travel today.”
