Hotel Esencia, located in Riviera Maya, Mexico, brings new luxury to the Caribbean with the debut of Esencia Mansion. Originally built as the remote hideaway house of an Italian duchess on a 50-acre estate, Hotel Esencia expands to welcome guests to the majestic Esencia Mansion. Designed to serve as a second Main House to the existing Hotel Esencia, Esencia Mansion perpetuates design team Kevin Wendle’s vision through art and interior design.

Featuring stylish and extremely spacious suites with en-suite bathrooms, double sinks and walk-in wardrobes, Esencia Mansion treats guests like royalty. The master suite embodies a laidback and chic vibe with a light-drenched bedroom connected to a grand master bathroom, which includes a shower room, state-of-the-art bathtub, double basins and an indoor/outdoor pool.

An adjacent office opens out onto a terrace with ample seating, a hammock and a direct view over the main pool area below. Esencia Mansion also features three en-suite jungle suites, all with peaceful outdoor terraces and a studio lounge for relaxing and reading. The mansion houses Wendle’s personal works of art and decorative objects from his collection, as well as bespoke creations made exclusively for the mansion by Marcel Dzama.

Dzama handcrafts ceramic tiles with custom drawings of animals found on the Esencia estate, the tiles appearing in the main pool, in bathrooms and at the speakeasy bar. The mansion’s eat-in kitchen boasts modern appliances for guests — or a private chef — to create tasty dishes or bespoke menus for a group. The family kitchen works for pre-dinner entertainment, connecting to a breakfast terrace with views of the surrounding flora and fauna.

At the heart of the mansion lies the main living room. Within this space exists a wet bar to prepare aperitivos and an intimate lounge with oversized windows. At the top level of Esencia Mansion, guests find a towering rooftop terrace with 360-degree views of the ocean and jungle, an expansive pool plunge, a covered terrace and sun loungers.

Esencia Mansion also offers an indoor fitness studio complete with high-tech equipment, such as the virtual on-demand personal trainer The Mirror, an elite Woodway treadmill and award-winning Pent Fitness weight sets. Also within the mansion lies a hidden screening room with comfortable seating for up to 20 people, as well as an underground, fully stocked speakeasy bar with its own secret jungle entrance and DJ booth staffed on request.

Hotel Esencia offers guests private helicopter services and airport transfers, landing right on the property’s helipad. The hotel also invites guests to experience any of its private tours around the surrounding region, with both a fly-by option and full-guided day tours to sites like Chichén Itzá, the Tulum Ruins, Coba and Isla Mujeres.

Its stone walls, earth tones, woven wall hangings and furniture made of natural materials reminded us we are part of nature’s spectrum, the abundant windows showing native plants and trees outside.
