Home to the Culinary Institute of Canada (and the fictional characters from the novel Anne of Green Gables), the eastern maritime province of Prince Edward Island is a great destination for foodies. Local bounty includes lobster, mussels, oysters, organic beef and an astounding variety of produce grown within the island’s green expanses. On May 21, the Confederation Centre of the Arts will be the setting for the PEI Savour Food & Wine Show, with top island chefs offering samples of their best dishes, along with plenty of local and regional wines and beers from 16 separate vendors.

Later this year from Sept. 2–Oct. 2, the Fall Flavours Festival includes signature events such as chowder and lobster dining in unusual settings, PEI handcrafted beer tastings and culinary boot camps where visitors can harvest oysters or pick potatoes. Among participating celebrity chefs will be Chuck Hughes, Michael Smith, Corbin Tomaszeski, Mark Micewan and Vikram Vu. From Sept. 15–18, the Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival gets underway with live music, a PEI Potato Chowder Championship, the Garland Canada International Chef Challenge, Raspberry Point International Oyster Shucking Championship and plenty of great, fresh island food.
