Bali’s lush tropical beauty is a given, but pales in comparison to the stunning majesty of Elephant Safari Park & Lodge’s full-time residents: more than two dozen rescued, and extremely rare, Sumatran elephants. Guests of the resort are afforded an opportunity to interact with these gentle giants, to observe them as they meander the grounds, and to participate in activities such as helping to bathe an elephant.
The 25-room boutique property’s luxuriously equipped guestrooms and suites are set amid a pool, botanical gardens and forest, not far from Ubud. Elephant-themed Balinese art is part of the decor, and guests can arrange to arrive at dinner via an elephant chauffeur — yes, that means aboard an actual elephant. The spa features local herbs and spices in treatments, with windows in the treatment rooms overlooking the elephant’s relaxation park.
