As the arrival of the Great American Eclipse —the first total solar eclipse in the United States in 26 years — approaches, some states are seeing massive jumps in hotel bookings.
Hotels.com released findings revealing Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Idaho and Kentucky saw the largest increase in hotel searches, compared to previous years.
Nebraska saw a 325 percent increase in hotel searches due to the eclipse, and Kansas saw a 200 percent increase. Both states are ideal locations for viewing the eclipse, and travelers are coming from around the country to snag rooms. Idaho and Kentucky saw a more than 130 percent increase compared to last year.
“Total solar eclipses are special events in the Universe. In addition to requiring a moon at just the right distance with just the right size, a planet must also have a star at just the right distance with just the right size. You don’t want to miss this rare and easy opportunity to view such a wonderful cosmic performance,” said Thomas Hettinger, Ph.D., astronomer, astrophysicist and Hotels.com team member.
Several hotels along the Great American Eclipse pathway offer great deals for the special event, including Element Omaha Midtown Crossing; The Bluemont Hotel in Manhattan, Kan.; Stony Creek Hotel & Conference Center, Independence, Mo.; The Raphael Hotel, Autograph Collection in Kansas City, Mo.; and 21c Museum Hotel Louisville in Louisville, Ky.
