The newest member of Cathay Pacific’s fleet was completed last week; the Airbus A350-1000 is just the first of 20 new aircraft set to join the airline’s fleet by 2021.
The aircraft was finished in Toulouse, France, and flown to the airline’s home in Hong Kong. After the first regional rounds, which go to Taipei (TPE) first on July 1, the aircraft will launch and maintain the line’s longest flight route to Washington, D.C. (IAD). The aircraft will also go to Tel Aviv (TLV), Madrid (MAD), Amsterdam (AMS), Manchester (MAN) and Zürich (ZRH).
The new aircraft will carry 334 passengers across its business, premium-economy and economy-class cabins. Information from Cathay Pacific goes on to mention the increased cabin pressure opens up the possibilities of cruising at lower altitudes.
“We already have one of the youngest long-haul fleets in the sky, and with the arrival of the A350-1000, our fleet is only going to get younger,” said Paul Loo, chief customer and commercial officer,
The new line will have considerable cargo capabilities, an important aspect for Cathay Pacific’s position as one of the world’s largest cargo airlines.
“We are proud to deliver the A350-1000 to our longstanding customer Cathay Pacific. The aircraft brings major advantages in fuel and cost efficiency along with unrivalled passenger comfort,” said Eric Schulz, chief commercial officer, Airbus.
