This year, Holland America Line will celebrate its 20th anniversary sailing to Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. In preparation, the island has been enhanced with various exciting features.
New to the pristine island is the fresh Lobster Shack dining options. Lobster lovers arrive on an empty stomach and enjoy the bounty of the sea, barbecue style, for a small fee. The Lobster Shack’s specialty menu items include grilled lobster with Caribbean coconut beans and rice, a rum-jerk butter glaze with pineapple and Caribbean sofrito salsas. Be sure to check out the three new watering hole locations serving drinks in addition to the newly renovated Captain Morgan on the Rocks bar.
“For the past 20 years Half Moon Cay has been the recipient of numerous accolades ranking it in the best private island in the Caribbean, and it continues to be the jewel in our Caribbean itineraries,” said Orlando Ashford, president, Holland America Line. “We are renowned for providing top destination experiences, and all of our guests will enjoy the recent enhancements on Half Moon Cay, including the Lobster Shack that is a fantastic addition to our culinary offerings.”
There are various new water sport options, from new Sunfish sailboats, Hobie catamarans, Aqua Cycle Trikes, Aqua Trax Wave Runners to paddleboats, stand-up paddleboards, snorkel gear and more. An additional 14 horses and two new grazing pastures joined the island to better facilitate the popular horseback riding option.
For more private options, the cabanas and two-story villas were recently refurbished with new paint, furnishings and décor.
The 2016/2017 Caribbean sailings that feature Half Moon Cay include sailings round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and cruise ships Koningsdam, Eurodam, Zuiderdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Veendam and Prinsendam.
