‘Tis the season! Now in its 23rd year, The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa’s annual Festival of Lights, a free, five-week celebration featuring one of the country’s largest holiday light collections, kicks off Nov. 27. The Southern California hotel’s magical experience attracts more than 250,000 worldwide visitors yearly, and begins with the Switch-On Ceremony, when the property is instantly illuminated with nearly 4 million lights followed by fireworks.

Highlights of the festival include more than 400 animated figures, appearances by Santa Claus, the world’s largest man-made mistletoe, horse-drawn carriage rides, elf tuck-ins, fresh snow, decorated Christmas trees, an outdoor skating rink and family-friendly entertainment.

This year, The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa is offering seasonal culinary and spa specials in honor of the festival, including the 12 Days of Holiday cocktails at 54° at Duane’s; gingerbread cupcakes at Casey’s Cupcakes; and the Savor the Season treatment at the spa.

Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
