Guests of Hilton Worldwide properties will soon be able to use their smartphones as their room keys with the launch of its digital check-in program in the first quarter of 2016. All members of the Hilton HHonors loyalty program who book through the hotel’s mobile app, website or call centers will be able to use the new technology, allowing guests to skip the front desk and instead check in via the mobile app. Upon arrival at their room, guests are able to open the door by waving their phone in front of the lock. The app will open doors for 170,000 rooms at 250 properties in the United States within the Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Canopy by Hilton brands. Since Hilton’s debut of digital check-in with room selection last July, HHonors members have digitally checked in more than 5 million times. Hilton Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, Va., is currently testing the program.
