The Hilton Brooklyn New York is located conveniently near many Brooklyn attractions at just a few blocks each from the Brooklyn Bridge, Barclays Center and New York Transit Museum. This gives travelers who, like myself, have maybe not spent much time in Brooklyn a taste of the borough and a quiet respite from Manhattan, but still close proximity via Uber or the subway to Lower Manhattan and the Financial District, if one happens to be in the area for business.
When I arrived at The Hilton Brooklyn New York, the street was rather quiet (and would remain so during my entire stay, except for during weekday mornings when a rush of workers took to the streets) and I easily found the self-parking ($30 per day) just a block away. A short walk and I was checked in, the efficient and helpful associates at the front desk welcoming me and getting me settled into my fourth-floor king guestroom.
While it’s not apparent from the ground floor, lobby and social spaces, the property, in the guest areas at least, boast some stylish theming that looks almost nautical in nature, but actually refers to the area’s historic rope-making factory (so you’ll spot the rope-inspired designs on the carpet paired with the seaworthy-looking lamps in the halls). Guestrooms are decorated in a color palette of black, white and mahogany with accent walls featuring toile prints.
The king guestroom was my home for several days and offered lots of space with extra seating and work areas. This was much appreciated as I was also traveling with my husband on this business trip, and both of us spent a few hours each day working in our guestroom without squabbling over space or outlets, as there was plenty of each.
The room’s views were of the street below, nothing wildly impressive. The bathroom’s walk-in shower and large vanity were standard of what one expects from a modern luxury hotel.
On-site dining includes a restaurant and bar off the lobby, Black Walnut, which serves American fare that’s gastropub-meets-American South. The lobby bar and room service menus mimic this on a smaller scale. I only had a chance to try the former, but was impressed with the bartender’s skills and my appetizers.
All in all, I found the hotel a luxurious experience that also offered the convenience needed for a business trip in Brooklyn, while still providing easy access to leisure activities in the neighborhood. It doesn’t have the big-box feel you might expect from a large brand like Hilton. A boutique, local vibe ensures you have the amenities you expect from a household hospitality name, from WiFi to a fitness center and meeting rooms.

Half a century ago, several architecturally significant buildings not only changed the face of Chicago but also reintroduced the city as a world-class travel destination. Roughly a year after the Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) emerged as the then world’s tallest building, Hyatt Regency Chicago opened its doors in August 1974. A second tower was constructed in 1980, making it one of the most ambitious hotels the city had seen, down to its above-ground skyway and underground concourse.
