Thanks to an agreed-upon high-speed rail line, travel between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur will become significantly shorter. The rail line will connect the two destinations in 90 minutes, down from the current 11-hour train ride or five-hour drive time. The governments of Malaysia and Singapore announced in July they signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail Project. The line will cover the 217-mile distance between the two popular destinations with trains traveling more than 186 mph. That will significantly reduce travel time. The rail line will have eight stops including Singapore, Iskandar Puteri, Batu Pahat, Muar, Ayer Keroh, Seremban, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur. Most of the line — 208 miles — will run through Malaysia, so the Malaysian government is committed to funding most of the project. Singapore will contribute funds to the project as well. The high-speed rail line is projected to cost $12 billion and it will take around seven years to complete. The governments are projecting construction to start in 2018, with the first rides available to the public in 2026.
