Helsinki Airport celebrated a new milestone as its annual passenger volume increased to a record-breaking 15 million. “Reaching the magical 15 million passenger milestone is a significant accomplishment for us. The positive development of passenger volumes shows that we have done good work to promote a smooth travelling experience in cooperation with airlines and our other partners,” said Ville Haapasaari, director, Helsinki Airport. The airport will begin an extensive development program this month that aims to boost its check-in and transit travel capacity to 20 million by 2020. The program will introduce a new security checkpoint in Terminal 2 this summer and renovate its dining and shopping venues. The additional checkpoint will be built on the third floor of the terminal and will allow the airport to serve more than 3,200 passengers per hour.
