One glance inside the butter LONDON salon at Seattle-Tacoma Airport and you know this is no basic buff-and-file operation. Black crystal chandeliers shimmer from the ceiling. Lustrous lacquered cabinets display the season’s most stylish nail colors. Designer wallpaper presents a whimsical portrait of Branwen, the Queen of England’s pet raven (depicted wearing a pearl choker). Butter LONDON looks and feels like a spa, but it’s located amid the bustle of Concourse C.

The only U.S. location for this Seattle-founded company, butter LONDON specializes in high-fashion, nontoxic lacquers free of formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate or parabens — suspect ingredients common in most standard nail formulations. All manicure and pedicure services are waterless (using no soaking basins for hands or feet) which is a carryover from the brand’s haute couture roots. “Backstage at Fashion Week, there’s no water and it’s absolute chaos,” says Leslie Freytag, butter LONDON’S president and CEO. “Everything must be quick and efficient, much like at an airport, where people are rushing to their next place. All of our services and treatments are created to deliver long-lasting results quickly and on-the-go.
