Beginning this year, China-based Hainan Airlines will be the first Chinese airline to offer direct flights to Israel. The airline´s Airbus A330-200 aircraft now flies to the Middle Eastern nation three times per week from Beijing Capital International Airport. Flights will depart Beijing, China, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays to travel the route of 4,435 miles to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. Travelers from Tel Aviv to Beijing can connect to other major cities in China including Shanghai and Guangzhou, among others. Traveling eastward, the flight will last approximately nine hours and 30 minutes, while the westbound flight will take 11 hours. The two-class aircraft will feature the 5-star service for which Hainan Airlines is known. Chinese interest in tourism to Israel has increased in recent years, with 34,000 visitors in 2015. The route is also covered by EL AL Israel Airlines thus sparking competition between the two airlines.
