Yardley, Pa., Jan. 29, 2014 – Global Traveler, the only monthly magazine for business and luxury travelers, awarded Chicago O’Hare International Airport the award for Best Airport in North America. Francis X. Gallagher, president and CEO, Global Traveler, presented the award to Rosemarie Andolino, commissioner, Chicago Department of Aviation.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport won Best Airport in North America in Global Traveler’s 10th annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards, a yearly survey of the magazine’s readers, an elite group of frequent luxury business travelers. More than 22,000 people voted for the best in a variety of travel-related categories. GT readers are frequent premium travelers averaging 16 international and 16 domestic round-trip flights a year, with an average household income of $368,900 per year. Chicago O’Hare International Airport has won this award for 10 consecutive years. As recognition of the achievement, the airport was also inducted into Global Traveler’s 10-Year Hall of Fame.
“Congratulations to Chicago O’Hare, consistently the best airport in North America,” said Francis X. Gallagher, publisher and CEO, Global Traveler. “In the past few years, the airport has made a number of significant infrastructure improvements, and there are more developments and updates in the pipeline. I can’t wait to see all the ways in which this great airport improves even more.”
Since Commissioner Andolino’s appointment, Chicago O’Hare International Airport welcomed a number of new air passenger services. United launched service to Edinburgh, Scotland and Shannon, Ireland. The airport welcomed Avianca, Hainan Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Qatar Airways, airberlin, Copa Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Air India and Etihad Airways. It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
