The Ritz Carlton Hotel Co. announced plans to open a new property in Nikko, Japan — amid a UNESCO World Heritage site. The region, set amongst mountains, rich forests and historic traditions, is known for its natural beauty, religious significance and culture. Famous Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines decorate the area and provide visitors with scenic attractions.

The Ritz-Carlton will open its new property on the east end of Lake Chuzenji, south of Mount Nantai. Guests will have easy access to Nikko’s National Park and UNESCO World Heritage-designated area.

The hotel will feature 94 guestrooms and suites, each with a view of either Lake Chuzenji or Mount Nantai. Two on-site restaurants include a lobby lounge and bar and a Western restaurant. The hotel will also host the signature The Ritz-Carlton Spa as well as fitness facilities.

The resort is scheduled to open in 2020. The Ritz Carlton currently has several properties in Kyoto, Okinawa, Osaka and Tokyo, Japan.
