Japan’s All Nippon Airways is getting its first Airbus A380 and plans to introduce it on the Tokyo (NRT)–Honolulu (HNL) route starting spring 2019. When the Flying Honu, as the plane will be dubbed, does take to the skies, it will be painted to look like an endangered Hawai’ian green sea turtle (honu in Hawai’ian), which is a symbol of luck and prosperity.

Late last month, JetBlue rolled out an intriguing three-color special livery on one of its 100-seat Embraer E190 aircraft.

JetBlue said the see-through Blueprint livery “draws on both the technical and fanciful aspects of air travel,” by including both mechanical features such as the nose gear, jet engine and yoke, but also has fun touches that include about 50 assorted items stored in the overhead bins, under the seats and in the luggage holds.

EVA Air, well-known for its Hello Kitty-themed planes, also launched a new Travel Fun Sanrio character jet adorned with the character Bad Badtz-Maru, flying on the Taipei (TPE)–Fukuoka (FUK) and Taipei–Seoul (ICN) routes. The Airbus A330-300 is the first to fly internationally with a Bad Badtz-Maru livery and shows a vacation-ready Bad Badtz-Maru and some of his friends, along with hats, a camera, snacks and other vacation-ready items.

Boeing debuted its first 737 MAX 9, the second member of the 737 MAX family, at a celebration March 7 in Renton, Wash.

The airplane has a maximum capacity of 220 passengers, a range of 3,515 nautical miles and is scheduled to enter service in 2018. Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 should start being delivered to customers in the second quarter of 2017.
