The Asia Pacific region will have the greatest demand for commercial airline pilots and maintenance technicians over the next 20 years, according to the 2015 Boeing Pilot & Technician Outlook.
The industry forecast of aviation personnel demand expects the region will have the highest demand with approximately 40 per cent of the global need — more than North America, Africa and Europe combined. An anticipated 226,000 new commercial airline pilots and 238,000 new technicians will be needed to cater to growing travel demand through 2034.
“The demand for 464,000 new pilots and maintenance technicians is a large number, and it translates into challenging, high-tech career opportunities for those who are interested in aerospace,” said Sherry Carbary, vice president, Boeing Flight Services. “Boeing invests heavily in inspiring the next generation of pilots and technicians, and we continuously introduce students to our industry.”
China is leading the region in projected demand, with need for 100,000 new pilots and 106,000 new technicians, while Southeast Asia will require 57,000 pilots and 60,000 technicians.
In late August, Boeing’s latest current market outlook forecast increased demand for aircraft, showing China will need 6,330 new aircraft over the next 20 years, up from its prediction last year of 6,020.
