If you’re a fan of director Wes Anderson’s quirky painting-like films (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Moonrise Kingdom), the new Bar Luce in Milan may be your next best reason to head to northern Italy. Set within the new Fondazione Prada cultural complex, the bar-café was designed by Anderson, and reflects his uniquely idiosyncratic aesthetic.
Reminiscent of moments in Anderson’s short Prada film project Castello Cavalcanti, and with nods to 1950s Italy and many of his other films, the atmosphere at Bar Luce is nothing short of cinematic. In the back, pinball machines pay homage to Castello Cavalcanti and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Rich details, vintage Formica tables and chairs, and layers of trappings inspired by retro Italy lend an eccentric sense of place that Anderson fans will recognize immediately. Open daily fro 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., the café space can be accessed streetside directly from Via Orobia.
