The Belfast International Arts Festival continues to bring world-class entertainment to visitors in Northern Ireland in an exploration of dance, theater, film, literature, and visual and digital arts, along with classical and roots music, through Nov. 3.
Still to come before the event wraps, a performance of The Lament for Art O’Leary by Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Muldoon, presented Nov. 2, at The Mac. The staged event is Muldoon’s translation of what is considered the greatest love poem in the Irish language, set to music performed by the Irish Celtic rock band Horslips.
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo takes the stage at the Grand Opera House, Nov. 2–3. Fondly known as The Trocks, this all-male ballet company is renowned for its comedic performances and outstanding dance aesthetic and technique.
Also on Nov. 3, at the Lecture Theatre at Belfast City Hospital’s Postgraduate Centre, Rose George joins Hugh Odling-Smee in “Nine Pints: A Journey Through the Mysterious, Miraculous World of Blood,” a discussion about the liquid life force that courses through our bodies.
Meanwhile in southeast Ireland’s town of Wexford, the 67th annual Wexford Festival Opera season brings the European premiere of Dinner at Eight to stage Nov. 1 and 4; and a double bill of L’oracolo and Mala Vita on Nov. 3.
