The lights of the aurora borealis appear frequently in the Fairbanks region of Alaska, with a growing number of Aurora Trackers in the area. A new video from Explore Fairbanks features five Fairbanks Aurora Trackers sharing their thoughts and photography on the northern lights.
Aurora season spans all four seasons and nine months in Fairbanks, running Aug. 21–April 21. Fairbanks is located directly under the Auroral Oval, a ring-shaped region. The area’s clear nights, occurrence frequency, low precipitation, distance from coastal areas and minimal light due to low population density all help contribute to the area’s reputation for northern lights viewing.
Aurora Trackers live for the chase, staying up all night, delving into science, finding their own viewing points and telling stories about what they’ve witnessed and photographed. Learn more of their stories in the new video.
