Zicatela is most easily accessed via Puerto Escondido Airport. International flights must connect through Mexico City (MEX) or Oaxaca (OAX). Zicatela is known as a prime surfing destination so head to the beach and hit the waves. Enjoy a drink or two at one of the beach bars. Next, make your way to the southeastern stretch of the beach, La Punta. This relaxed beach area is popular among fitness fanatics. Expect to see people running and practicing yoga. Make sure you’re near the beach later in the day so you can experience the spectacular sunset.
Spend the rest of your trip exploring Puerto Escondido. Head to Mercato Benito Juarez, located about two miles from the beach. The market is a great place to stock up on souvenirs for your loved ones, and yourself! You’ll find local delicacies like Oaxacan chocolate and handmade items, including pottery, all of which will remind you of your trip once you return home.
