Begin in Key Largo with an overnight at Marina Del Mar Resort & Marina. The one- or two-bedroom guestrooms easily accommodate families; it’s pet-friendly, too. Breakfast is complimentary. Spend your day in Key Largo getting acquainted with underwater animals, first at John Pennekamp Coral Reef Sea Park, the first undersea park in the United States. Glass-bottom boats, canoes and kayaks are available. In the afternoon, visit the exhibits, shows and programs at family-owned Theater of the Sea, established in 1946 and one of the oldest marine mammal facilities in the world. For dinner, Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill will satisfy kids and parents alike.
As you make your way to Key West for the final days of this four-day jaunt, stop in Marathon to experience Dolphin Research Center, a non-profit using education, research and rescue to promote co-existence and cooperation between marine mammals and animals. You can observe the dolphins and sea lions, chat with trainers and more.
Once in Key West, split your next two days between the Conch Train Tour, Key West Aquarium, Key West Shipwreck Museum and any of the tours operated by Fury. We recommend the Ultimate Adventure. At Key West Aquarium, visitors have the opportunity to touch a shark, while the Conch Train Tour and shipwreck museum take families back in time to Old Key West.
