Atlanta Layover Itinerary

Atlanta Layover Itinerary

When your travels take you through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on a layover, you have plenty of options for shopping, entertainment and dining.

Itinerary

Up to 4 Hours Arrive Atlanta, explore the airport
More Than 4 Hours In Hapeville and near the airport
All Day In downtown Atlanta

Highlights of the trip

  • Explore the impressive art collection at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
  • Learn more about aviation at Delta Flight Museum
  • Rev your engines at Porsche Experience Center Atlanta
  • Venture into the heart of Atlanta to experience the sights

Less Than 4 Hours

If your layover is less than six hours, explore the myriad options available at ATL. Stroll the airport’s Art Program, which includes commissioned, site-specific artwork; rotating exhibitions; and performing arts series. The airport also hosts live performances throughout the facility daily.

For your shopping or dining pleasures, ATL offers more than 300 outlets, guaranteeing you find a way to while away the layover time. We personally enjoy One Flew South for first-rate cuisine. Or, to relax some, consider purchasing passes to member lounges throughout the airport.

More Than 4 Hours

If your flight schedule allows, venture outside the airport. Stick close to the airport and visit the Delta Flight Museum, celebrating aviation history and the story of Delta Air Lines. The museum is closed Wednesdays.

Also nearby is Porsche Experience Center Atlanta. Here, you can partake in the driving school, visit the simulator lab, take a tour or dine at Restaurant 356.

The Hapeville neighborhood, conveniently located to ATL, offers a historic downtown to stroll and quality dining options like Pit Boss BBQ and Volare Wine & Bistro.

All Day

If you have nearly a full day between flights, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority offers a train from the airport to city center in approximately 20–30 minutes. Choose an activity for the day that best suits your interests, but we recommend Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola or the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site.

Meet 5 Women Shaping the Brixen/South Tyrol Travel Experience

Although a destination’s terrain, cuisine and cultural attributes always draw travelers in, it is often the people they meet that make the trip an enduring memory rather than a box to be checked off. It’s a job responsibility that people working around the Plose and adjoining town of Brixen (in Italy’s Trentino-Alto Adige region) take seriously. This is even more true for five women dedicated to introducing visitors to new aspects of the time-honored ski, leisure and hiking mountain destination in the Dolomites.

From Piraeus port, you can access Hydra, Spetses, Aegina and Poros directly. Come explore these stunning islands with us and find the inspiration to plan your next trip to these islands. Hydra Hydra town curves around a slope overlooking the Argosaronic Gulf like an amphitheater and is considered one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. Most unique to the island is its lack of vehicles. People on the island get around on mules and donkeys as well as water taxis, making for a peaceful and laid-back day. Hydra lies a two-hour ferry ride from Piraeus port in Athens.

Located between India to the south and China to the north, Bhutan is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Bhutan came late to global tourism. It opened its borders to international visitors in 1974 and, while tourism definitely increased, residents are enduring “light” rush-hour traffic in Thimphu, its capital city, as the only Asian capital without traffic lights.

Amansara Review

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
