Etihad is the first airline in the world to vaccinate all its operating pilots and cabin crew against COVID-19. In January 2021, Etihad was awarded Diamond status for ensuring high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the APEX Health Safety, powered by SimpliFlying audit.
The vaccination achievement was made possible through Etihad’s Protected Together employee vaccination initiative, launched in January. In 2020, the airline took steps toward supporting employees receiving the vaccine, facilitating access for its frontline staff through the UAE’s Emergency Use Programme. Etihad Airways Medical Centre is an accredited COVID-19 vaccination clinic. The Protected Together initiative also includes virtual talks to connect staff with medical professionals, mobile clinics and simple, clear vaccine information.
“We proactively made the vaccine available to all our employees to not only help combat the effects of COVID-19 but to make travelers feel confident and reassured the next time they fly with us,” said Tony Douglas, group chief executive officer, Etihad Aviation Group. “We are the only airline in the world to make COVID-19 testing mandatory for every passenger and crew member before every flight and now, we’re the first airline in the world with 100 percent vaccinated crew on board.”
