Renovations are well underway at the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower in Las Vegas. So far, three floors and 253 rooms have been recreated as part of the new Elevate series. The fresh contemporary décor includes a palette of hues, suggesting the colors of the sky, with midnight blue upholstered bedframes and carpets in a shade of stormy gray.
The team behind the design, the award-wining Friedmutter Group, enhanced techno perks, including halo-lit custom headboards, storage cubbies under beds, bedside tables with integrated charging stations and USB ports, cordless phones connecting guests to the hotel’s round-the-clock concierge services, 55-inch televisions with HDMI ports, complimentary WiFi and custom entertainment consoles.
In the reimagined bathrooms, guests find translucent interior pocket doors, wood details and built-in vanities. Walk-in showers are finished with large-scale porcelain tile and glass doors. Additional amenities include an in-room refrigerator, a safe and a designated work area, as well as a courtesy coffeemaker, full-length dressing mirror and luggage storage shelf.
Located at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, the hotel has 2,427 guestrooms and suites. Property features include gaming in the 80,000-square-foot casino, complimentary parking and dining in Top of the World’s revolving dining room. The restaurant can be found in Stratosphere Tower. The soaring 1,149-foot tower is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the country.

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
