Edinburgh Airport (EDI) unveiled plans to expand its terminal building as the first part of a major renovation project. The airport expects to add a larger security area, more retail venues and a business center. “This investment is the first of a number of developments that will build Edinburgh Airport’s profile around the world, helping us to compete more energetically with other U.K. airports and those in mainland Europe,” said Gordon Dewar, CEO of Edinburgh Airport. Construction is scheduled to begin this October with the larger security area set to open in late 2014 followed by the new shopping space in 2015. The airport’s board committed to investing more than $233 million in the gateway over the next five years.
