Set within Brazil’s Cerrado savannah, the new Pousada Trijuncão is a member of Bee + Hive, part of the Global Sustainable Tourism Association. The small luxury lodge has an impressive address at the borders of Brazil’s Goiás, Bahia and Minas Gerais states — the Cerrado itself is home to “maned” wolves, giant armadillos, 850 bird species, 251 mammal species, 204 amphibian species, 1,200 fish species and 278 reptile species.

If searching them out for photo ops doesn’t keep you busy enough, you can also embark upon a night safari in search of mysterious Brazilian jaguars, or the jacaré-anão, the world’s smallest species of alligator (and native to this region). Guests can also enjoy visits to Grande Sertão Veredas National Park and explore the natural spring at Formoso River.

Powered by solar energy, lodge features include indoor and outdoor kitchens and seven luxury suites, several with their own wraparound terraces and outdoor bathing areas. Bath amenities were created by Brazilian cosmetic company Natura with ingredients sourced from Amazonian products. Minibars in each of the seven heavenly suites have local treats such as native nuts.

Guests can let the hotel’s staff plan a picnic for them or simply relax during a night grill while local musicians provide a soundtrack to the moonlight. For late sleepers, breakfast is available in the restaurant throughout the day.
