Dubai plans to unveil the world’s first temperature-controlled city within a city with the opening of the world’s biggest mall. Set to be the retail and hospitality showpiece development for the Emirate’s 2020 Vision and Expo in Dubai, the Mall of the World will feature a theme park, a theater district, approximately 100 hotels, facilities for medical tourists and about four miles of thoroughfares based on London’s Oxford Street.
“The growth in family and retail tourism underpins the need to enhance Dubai’s tourism infrastructure as soon as possible. This project complements our plans to transform Dubai into a cultural, tourist and economic hub for the 2 billion people living in the region around us — and we are determined to achieve our vision,” said Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai ruler.
Developed by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, the Mall of the World will be located along Sheik Zayed Road. The new project is expected to contribute to Dubai’s plan to double its annual visitor numbers from 10 million in 2012 to 20 million in 2020 and become the most visited city in the world.
