Delta and Aeromexico are finally allowed to start their new Joint Cooperation Agreement covering trans-border flights between the United States and Mexico.
The carriers applied for antitrust immunity to allow the JCA back in March 2015. The agreement was completed May 3, after the required divestiture of slot pairs at Mexico City International and New York (JFK).
The two airlines can now proceed with coordination on fares and schedules on trans-border routes between the United States and Mexico.
“Starting today, Delta and Aeromexico will work together to enhance the customer experience on the ground and in the air by investing in airport facilities, boarding gates and lounges. The two companies will also be able to implement joint sales and marketing initiatives in both countries,” Delta Air Lines said in a statement.
The agreement allows Delta to provide service in the United States through its connecting hubs at Atlanta (ATL), Detroit (DTW), Los Angeles (LAX), Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP), New York (JFK), Salt Lake City (SLC) and Seattle (SEA), while Aeromexico will offer customers great access to Mexico through hubs in Mexico City (MEX), Monterrey (MTY) and Guadalajara (GDL).
Delta and Aeromexico have a long history together, having launched their first codeshare agreement in 1994. Delta owns a 36.2 percent stake in Grupo Aeromexico, and plans to increase this to 49 percent. Both Delta and Aeromexico are members of the SkyTeam alliance.
