New from bike tour experts Ride & Seek’s history-centric itineraries, the Berlin–to–Budapest Iron Curtain expedition leads participants through five capital cities and five cultures on a route traversing nearly 1,000 miles. The trip offers two separate sections — one for those preferring a shorter excursion, eight days peddling from Berlin to Prague; or 11 days along the route from Prague to Budapest.

Famous sites along the way include the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie, and scenery, including castles of the Czech Middle Mountains, the Elbe riverbank and days spent on the Danube’s beautiful, well-maintained bike paths. Other highlights are sampling German wheat beers, Austrian lagers, Czech pilsners and Hungarian ales.

Participants opt to explore some of Europe’s most beautiful and historic cities, including Budapest, Hungary; Telč, Czech Republic; and Görlitz, Germany. There’s also plenty of traditional food to enjoy such as Viennese-style coffee, Austrian schnitzel, chocolate-raspberry Sachertorte cake, German bratwurst sausages and Hungarian goulash.

Along the way, history becomes real and up-close as cyclists make their way through landscapes dotted with palaces once housing Viennese nobility, and in the shadows of fortresses from World War II. Scheduled for Aug. 18–Sept. 4, 2019, prices begin at $8,318.
